Very different, because it is 100% cabernet franc (very rare). Dry, leathery, yummy. Elizabeth T. Wed Oct 17 19:10:09 UTC 2012 at a friends house Pour this wine into your glass after a judicious amount of time in the decanter and you get lovely purple bubbles... It is also a deep, dark red with an intense hedgerow fruit aroma - which I guess translates into blackberry and green leaf. To taste with food (diced mutton, mustard mash, cauliflower, carrot, leeks, peas and broad bean with a lovely jus - since you are interested!) it went very well. Robust, well it does have a 14.5% abv too..., and substantial with a green backbone of tannins. And then the meal is finished, but I get to finish the wine as post-food my other half is no longer impressed... The problem is that tannic edge really starts to dominate beyond the initial flavour hit, so this wine absolutely needs food for it to perform at its best. The wine almost becomes Jekyll and Hyde, good with food and oh so slightly sharp and sour with a huge tannic hit without food... So now you know how to enjoy this wine, and I am off to go and grab a chunk of cheese to enjoy the last little bit left of this wine... Barry W. Sun Oct 14 18:50:26 UTC 2012 at a friends house Yum, I'd forgotten just how good this wine is; earthy red fruits :) Francesca J. Sat Oct 13 19:35:38 UTC 2012 andrew d. Sat Jul 28 07:25:06 UTC 2012 Everything about this wine was Cab. franc., tar and coal dust on both nose and palate. Sweet and elegant, yet deep and powerful, like the best chinon rouge you can imagine from a good year. David B. Mon Jul 02 21:14:44 UTC 2012 at a friends house Cab Franc can be difficult as a single varietal wine, but this one is a pretty accessible version. Definitely worth a try... Lisa L. Fri May 18 12:32:34 UTC 2012 at a friends house Malcolm D. Wed Apr 18 21:38:35 UTC 2012 Very well balanced, crisp clean and sophiticated, but rather too lacking in body for my taste. ALSO a bit on the expensive side so only 3.5*. Charles D. The last of the reviews for my self-imposed South African weekend, I saved this one until last due to its price. It's different to many of the wines I've tried lately, more old style French than the New World I've grown used to - quite dry with an almost briny / seaweedy taste. It very much reminded me of two of my favourite whiskies, Talisker and Lagavulin - not bad but it took me completely by surprise. Not too sure if I want all my wine to taste like that, but it went well with the whisky prawn pots and whisky mushroom chicken I'd planned for dinner. Before you ask, I sampled the wine well beforehand so my judgement wasn't tainted. The price is too high to justify a repeat purchase, even when taking the angel's reduction into account. I'd go for the £10 a bottle cheaper Arabella Shiraz I tried 2 days ago in preference Alastair L. A great CB, Raats is a master with these wines. ERIC M. Best red from Naked so far. From the first sip I knew the bottle was being finished - even on a school night. Simon M. Wed Nov 16 22:45:29 UTC 2011 at a friends house gloria m.
