If you like the rustic element of minervois & corbieres then don't hesitate to try this easy drinking rich red. The nose is quite muted but the flavours certainly aren't. It's a heady mix of red & blackcurrants, blueberry & vanilla topped off with a smooth & creamy finish due to the oak. You can taste the alcohol in it but it doesn't overpower & lets face facts you wanted alcohol in your wine didn't you!? Cheers team Ventura, consistency & value, as ever! Geoff F. Well, actually, Antonio Ventura suggested I try the reserva. Who am I to argue with that? I just wish my memories of the standard version were more vivid so I could offer a proper comparison. It's another "home alone" night (Mrs. Gerry is still in Norfolk) so another bottle of red for me to quaff all to myself. And what a great choice this proved to be. A really dark ruby colour in the glass with a simply amazing nose. Dark fruits, chocolate, spice and vanilla all competing for attention. On the palate, there's the added dimension of liquorice and a smooth, almost buttery texture with what seems to me to be an almost perfect balance of tannins and acid. The finish is full of fruit with lots of raspberry and cream flavours. Another really nice wine. I had this with a proper "man's home alone" dinner - Egg and bacon (OK, duck egg and beer smoked bacon). Probably not exactly how Antonio intended, but the match seemed pretty good to me. Gerald F. Sat Feb 23 18:29:09 UTC 2013 Having had a miraculous recovery from man flu I was delighted to try this for the first time. Upon opening I was greeted with a heavy, smokey chocolate beast. I had a quick sip then left it for a few hours. I am bloomin glad I did! A few hours later this super wine treated me to loads of raspberry and red berries on my palette with a hint of liquorice. Sat Jul 07 11:06:00 UTC 2012 at a friends house A very deep, pigmented colour, dark reddy-purple (lightening towards the glass as Barry notes), this wine makes an impression from pouring. The nose, to me, smelt warm and comforting - a huggy wine! Laura just said 'oh gosh' and agreed that it was beautifully oaked, a very good sign! Swilling it round in the glass I was very glad to see that this wine has truly lovely legs as well, another sign of the pleasures to come. The wine is rich and full-bodied to taste, ripe red harvest fruits that slip down very(!) smoothly, with a good length and emergent vanilla tones as it goes down. I get chocolate as it disappears, Laura didn't, but we both agreed that the level of oak in there was just right. For the price, this is a true winner of a wine & we'll no doubt be back for more. As Antonio loves to explain, this wine is made from a blend of Syrah, Trincadeiro and Aragonez grapes which have been aged for 7 months in both Frenach and American oak barrels. So it should be good, right? And it is! Nice looking ruby colour with a lightening towards the glass, it has a dark fruit aroma mixed with some forest floor notes. It is a 13.5% abv wine, with a dark fruit rich palate, creamy and quite full-bodied, and smooth to taste. I had thought that the plain old non-reserva was so good that I needn't bother. I've been missing out. Like the Montaria, it is incredibly smooth, with rich berry fruits to the fore. The Reserva offers an extra depth and a little more body. A great buy. Andrew S. Mon Mar 12 15:32:35 UTC 2012 Right. This is the best red Naked Wine I have so far tasted, it is fabulous, unctious, ripe, overflowing with juicy fruit. The colour is deep ruby red and the nose is still a bit backward. The mouth, however, can barely contain the flavour, which is a basketful of fruits, cherry, plum, raspberry, blackcurrent, loganberry and more, all rolled into one. There is nothing to spoil it, no raw, green tannins, no short finishes, no stodgey jammeyness, nothing. Please accept my humble congratulations! The following is what I wrote some months ago. I am rarther glad I waited "Mr Antonio, I am so impressed Beautiful, rich, oily and glossy wine. the only trouble is with the nose and palate; the wine is very backward and the flavour is almost completely closed up. So many of the Naked red repertoire are so young and may not be giving of their best for some while and this is one of those. This is stacked with potential, but a 2 years wait is on the cards! The moral is that you might buy 3 of each wine that takes your fancy, one to try after a couple of months, another to drink in a year and the third to forget about for a good while!" David B. Wed May 29 07:59:30 UTC 2013 I'm not sure if it's me, the wine or maybe I had an off bottle but to me it had a very noticeable nose of clove and Christmas spice, almost a touch medicinal. Is this right? I dont see anyone else mention that yet its so obvious to me. Its not undrinkable and some may find that delicious but I do wonder about it... It may just be the surprise of how unusual it is. A tad too much American oak there too I think? Alan H. It's a lovely well balanced wine with dark plummy fruits but enough spice and tannic bite not to make it too fruity. It had just enough acidity to cut through the rich pork and paired very well.
