Thu Feb 14 12:56:45 UTC 2013 I am afraid that this one was not entirely to my taste when compared to other torrontes. As many have noted this is a very floral wine, and the jasmine dominates a tropical fruit nose. In the mouth there is a very nice acidic bite at the front of the tongue before the honey, tropical fruit and more jasmine comes through. The citric finish is most welcome as it balances out the sweetness of the flowers. I started this with a Chinese pork dish and is was a great match. My trouble with this wine is that after food I found it a bit sickly. This is not the wines fault, more my palate however eating your tea with a 17 month old tends to lead to scoffed food and I did not enjoy this wine by itself! I have the lirico in the fridge and have a feeling that it will be more to my liking as my favourite so far was the ocaso as it was more apples than flowers. theodore b. Sat Nov 24 08:28:00 UTC 2012 Let's face it, this wine won't be to everyone's taste. Personally, I liked it a lot and for my wife, it had the WOW factor. A pale lemon colour in the glass and a nose of tropical fruits and loads of floral notes that I can't readily identify specifically. As soon I got a whiff of this on my snout, I knew this was for me. It's a bit like a Gurwertztraminer without the spice (well, that's what it seemed like to me) Those tropical fruits (mango, a touch of lychee and maybe even a bit of banana) continue onto the palate where they are joined by peaches and maybe even some melon. At the same time it has a sort of mineral fresh acidic citrus feel about it that seems to dominate the finish. I find it's always tempting to suggest that wines of this type are sweet, but I don't think this is any more than "off dry". The nature of the fruit in this wine can, I think, be deceptive and I only got the merest hint of sweetness on the tip of my tongue. We had this with a prawn and chicken "Singapore style" noodle stir fry and it worked a treat. I also think that this is a wine that is also ideal for easy drinking. I've also got a bottle of the Osaco in the fridge for tonight so it will be interesting to see how they differ. Now look at the price. It's £6.99 a bottle. That makes it great value in my opinion. Having NEVER drunk a Torrontes before, I was very keen to see how this shaped up against a Viognier - probably a close relative!! The Torrontes has a good bouquet to it, peachy and citrusy, but NOT too overpowering. There is a gentle floral fragrance when first opened. When you start to drink it, this leaves a nice lingering taste on the palate, leaving you with a "want more" feeling... it has quite a good body for a light white wine, delicate aromas and a good structure, not too acidic. There is a great taste to this wine and it went down a treat with Chorizo Sausage (which really surprised me!!), the second half of the bottle is accompanying a cheeseboard of Brie and Camembert and it works with the cheeses too. I get the feeling that this is a wine which needs to be drunk young - i.e. not aged for more than 3 years. I would DEFINITELY add this to the summer drinking collection for this year. Stephen G. One of my guests enjoys mostly Reislings, one sauvignons and another chardonnay but this went down well with all as it doesn't necessarily fall into one drinker's category. What a wonderful wine this is! It's described on the label as 'blissfully aromatic', and I'd have to agree - the aroma simply leaps out of the glass at you..., and honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, pears and pineapple when it hits the tastebuds. A triumph - thank you Mauricio! I took this to my local tasting gang last week where we covered south america. This was the only white taken (surprisingly) but it was the favourite of the night. Some comments noted; 'floral', 'lychees', 'jasmine', 'slight cinder toffee', 'elegant', 'effervescence', 'sherbet finish', 'dry'. As it was blind, most people spotted the torrontes nose but they didn't guess the price! Guesses ranged from £13 up to £20 so imagine my smug grin when I told them it was £7. It's certainly generated some interest in the forthcoming Newcastle tasting! So what do I think? Well all of the above and then some. As I said at the beginning the vintages just get better and better. The wine is incredibly versatile ranging from a sunny BBQ quaffer to a rich smoked chicken risotto. Fill your boots! I couldn't find the characteristic zestiness, but instead found the tuberose abundance more akin to Voignier. To say I liked would be wrong but to say I didn't like it is also wrong. It still had the same wonderful peach flavour but with floral undertones, a good refreshing burst of citrus and almost a slight fizz on the tongue.
