 I was initially put off buying this wine due to the debate earlier this year and the subsequent withdrawal of the Angel discount. Then I read the reviews and inevitably my resolve crumbled and my interest was aroused. A deep dark ruby colour in the glass with a nose that seems to scream raspberry and strawberry. There’s more there though – I think we detected something smoky and spicy. The summer red fruit themes continue on the palate but with a very pleasant hint of acidity. Gentle tannins and a long finish that leaves a lingering, almost warming feeling, tasting of raspberry and cherry. I took a sip when I started typing this review, and the aftertaste is still there. So we two bottles of this on Christmas Day with our roast goose and on reflection, I wish we’d tried two different PNs for comparison purposes. So would I buy it again? Yes, I think so. It is a bit pricy, but I can now understand what all the fuss is about and why so many people wanted to keep it on the site, even without a discount. Gerald F. I described the first vintage that I tried of this wine as finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Does the lively and young or fresh 2010 live up to the heritage of previous vintages? Oh yes! I am still enthralled by this wine. We had a lovely miso paste-based salmon meal tonight and I chose the Grove Mill PN to accompany it and it worked brilliantly... but I couldn't keep my hands off the GR so as soon as I could this one was cracked. Much more intense, the GR has a more mystical and darker look to it. The nose is raspberry and smokey at the same time. The colour is either dark and foreboding or scarlet heading towards pale at the meniscus with the light behind it. Sweated raspberry and strawberry fruits just tickle the palate, along with that fickle smokey tones too. Absolutely glorious... It is another hit from this rightly award winning vineyard for me.... For those that don't put Pinot Noir at the top of their list of favourite grapes (like me), I'd suggest you try this; chances are your opinions will be changed. None of the overpowering "rubber" smell I normally associate with PN in this bottle, it's a joy to drink. Lighter red than I thought it was OK, it's also a lighter wine than the alcohol content quoted would have you believe. A bit of tannin to keep it interesting, and a nod towards raspberries and cherry too, with a faint touch of oak included. Would I buy it again? I already have - a case of 6. If there are any left, I'd recommend you do too, particularly if you don't go for Pinot Noir, and at the preorder price it's an affordable treat 4/5 Alastair L. Amazing, fruity smoothness for a pinot noir with the added bonus of an earthy farminess that really takes this wine onto a new level. I have tried a couple of Naked pinot noirs recently and struggled with them (Ok to good but didn't justify the price in my eyes). I tried a Central Otago Pinot Noir from the Wine Society recently which was very good - this is better by a good distance. At the pricier end but worth every penny for a treat. Fill your boots.
