Delicious! Christine S. Mon Sep 03 13:34:44 UTC 2012 lived it Neil S. Sun Jul 01 11:48:31 UTC 2012 Probably some people would love this wine but unfortunately we were disappointed - clearly an acquired taste but the strong sandalwood smell and aftertaste mean this is not a botle we would order again :( Deri R. Fri Jun 08 18:28:12 UTC 2012 David S. Fri Jun 01 19:52:34 UTC 2012 Rachel I. A fantastic bottle, well worth it Ben S. Tue Apr 24 14:28:33 UTC 2012 Absolutely stunning. Can't go wrong with any of the vintages. Charles D. Mon Mar 04 22:21:53 UTC 2013 John D. Decanted, left and now indulged! So what is this wee beastie like? It is a solid looking wine when you get it in your glass! Yes, and when I decanted it and gave it a friendly swirl there was a nice set of purpley bubbles too. Take a sniff and this Syrah gives off big waves of warmth - of pepper spice and bold dark fruits along with some garrigue herbiness (I'm going to have to go there one day, and delve further!!!) that meld together well casting an intoxicating spell over your nostrils... It is also a big and bold mouthful when you get to taste this 14.0% abv wine. Pepper is topmost, backed up by big brambly succulent fruit, it is delicious... It is also quite high on the tannin front for me, which gives it a very positive backbone to highlight the fruit and spice, and leads to a long finish. I confess, this is now being tippled without food (quelle horreur), so my weightings are probably off-kilter to anyone trying it with food acting as a protein counter-balance. Big, bold, but maybe not altogether brutal with food, it is definitely a wine to try again and again, but best with some sustaining protein at the same time... or then again not - if that pleases :-) Barry W. Wed Mar 06 14:37:38 UTC 2013 at a friends house Lovely peppery taste, full bodied but not too heavy on the tannins. Leaves you with a good lingering taste of berries and plums. I recommend opening this one a couple of hours before drinking and decanting if possible to really release the wonderful taste . Steve G. Sat Mar 31 11:19:22 UTC 2012 at a friends house N B. Such a string smell even from the glass. It drew my cheeks together as I tried to drink it. Struggled with half a glass, and had to admit defeat, down the sink it went. Was like nothing I'd ever tasted. Really disappointed, coupled with the fact it was one of the dearer wines in my order. Catriona d. Mon Feb 06 19:25:04 UTC 2012 Michele D. Fri Jan 27 17:48:27 UTC 2012 It's OK wine, but I found it a bit watery. Claus B. Fri Jan 20 15:58:13 UTC 2012 at a friends house Ann G. Thu Jan 19 20:15:43 UTC 2012 at a friends house HOLLY J. Mon Jan 09 23:43:36 UTC 2012 at a friends house Really nice Shiraz. A bit 'bitey' when first opened, but mellowed to a lovely smooth, mellow shiraz when I had another glass the following day. Recommend it. Cindy P. Mon Jan 09 17:44:50 UTC 2012 at a friends house Darren L. A bit too much of the taste of the farmyard Jemma P. This wine is pure class! DAVE P. Uurrgghhh! Corked! Can I have another please so I can review it properly?! Matthew B. Very berry, very intense, a good syrah. Nicely rounded and full bodied with a good smoothness. My only criticism is the length is a bit short and subdued, but I would definately recommend this. John C. spicy, smooth and floral but not overbearing. beautiful. Adam L. Tue Nov 22 21:08:27 UTC 2011 at a friends house Adam B. Fri Nov 18 13:01:55 UTC 2011 at a friends house DAWN W. Wed Nov 09 22:08:24 UTC 2011 I have to say, these represent my favourite wines from NW and they only come out for good food and good friends! I've got a good selection that i'm laying down for a few years as seems to be the recommendation. Having said that i'm finding it bloody difficult not to get stuck in! I think this wine is very good value, needs decanting but you will not be disappointed - enjoy! barry g. It's a dark brooding wine full of damson fruits and spice, with a slight barnyard note (in a good way) that adds character. Well balanced with a good dose of tannins and personally I think best drunk with food which mellows the tannins out. Francesca J. Sun Jul 01 09:48:28 UTC 2012 Anthony H. Tue Oct 25 14:02:47 UTC 2011 at a friends house Not really to my taste. Owen A. Tue Oct 25 09:03:47 UTC 2011 at a friends house Very intense clear dark ruby red in colour, nose is dark fruits and liquorice with a slight floral edge to it. Taste certainly doesn't disappoint, loads of dark fruits with the typical syrah pepperyness, medium length finish with a very pleasant fruity after taste with the liquorice coming in at the end. David T. Tue Feb 05 20:36:38 UTC 2013 David L. Ryan O. Sun Nov 06 12:13:41 UTC 2011 at a friends house Benjamin T. Thu Oct 20 11:24:29 UTC 2011 After reading quite a lot of negative reviews of the 2008 i opened a bottle with trepidation and left for most of the day. What a wonderful example of a French Syrah, i can understand what some reviewers might find as a strange taste, it is the herbaceous notes coming through from the surrounding terroir. All the wild herbs impart (for me) a bonus flavour into this wine. Typical peppery notes with dark fruit. A interesting wine from this area of the Languedoc bordering the Mediterranean region. I would just suggest to those who have found this to be an not so enjoyable experience to just try another bottle. I have drunk this on its own and the tannins did not overpower the palate, paired with red meats ( and pork pies)and you have a winner. Malcolm D. Fri Mar 30 12:04:24 UTC 2012 I haven't been this disappointed in a wine for quite a while. I've been looking forward to try this since my pre-order arrived and left it to rest so there was no chance of bottle shock. I opened and decanted and was immediately worried. I couldn't find anything on the nose apart from a little oak and a lot of alcohol. I left for a good hour and returned. Still no change in the nose. I poured a glass took a sip and my fears where confirmed. Pepper, oak, a lot of alcohol and no fruit. Maybe this is why the French get so uppity about wine not being 14% or more? I fired up the laptop to look at the wine's page and others reviews. Happily I do seem to be in the minority and there are plenty of fans which I'm pleased about. Ryan and Joe seem to be a great blokes who are clearly very passionate about their wine making. Looking back I feel I should take some of the blame. I'm not a fan of French reds and was probably expecting more of a New World twist as Ryan and Joe are Americans. In summery if you're a Francofile then quite possibly this is for you. If however you're more of a New Worlder you might want to give it a miss. Nathan M. Good all-round Syrah. Deep colour, good nose, spicy background, smooth with no biterness. One to drink on its own with the weekend's newspapers. Andy S. Sun Oct 16 16:05:29 UTC 2011 Eamon F. An iphone user Wed Oct 12 20:49:20 UTC 2011 David R. Mon Sep 12 20:01:44 UTC 2011 at Naked Wines HQ This wine smells of violets and has a lovely floral taste, almost like drinking perfume (in a good way). William S.
