To the nose a slight whiff of vanilla. To the palate a cigar box quality, coffee and even a little honey, very smooth and enjoyable ending with spice and pepper notes. I think I have a new Brewery Hill favourite! I followed Jocks advice with this being a young wine & double decanted 8 hours before wine time & am now reaping a rich reward! The nose is even now still quite muted but gives a soft dark fruit but in the mouth this reveals its true qualities. The description on the wines page has it very accurately summed up, full of rich bramble fruit with a smooth dark chocolate finish & a lingering spicy finish that lasts very well. I drank this on its own but it's got "goes well with lamb" written all over it! Nice one Jock great wine at a great price, I'll be buying it as soon as it's released on the site! Geoff F. Patricia F. Fri Mar 09 19:42:15 UTC 2012 I was lucky enough to buy half a dozen bottles of Chalk Hill Assemblage 2009, I think on the old style Naked Wines marketplace. Whilst I very much liked it at the time I kept half the case back to see how it developed. Last night we had slow roast shoulder of lamb with Mediterranean style grilled veg and opened a bottle of this. Wow! The wine has really matured well - a rich, dark ruby colour in the glass with aromas of ripe cherries, strawberries and blackberries backed by a hint of vanilla. The taste is fab. All the fruity promise of the aroma is fulfilled in the glass - the same fruits and vanilla, a slight sweetness and dryness and the tannins have settled down to a perfect balance. The fruits with a slightly dry counterbalance linger after swallowing. A perfect foil for our meal. My only conundrum is that I only have two bottles left - drink now or leave longer?! Kathy P. The previous vintage was 2006 so, being 3 years younger, you'd expect it to have a different personality. It's lighter, easier to drink and there's a more pronounced hit of pepper than before. In it's own right though, it's still a very nice wine and, having ordered 18 bottles, I should be able to keep a fair few of them for a while to allow to develop their own personality even more. My Lord did it! a big,rich brazen beauty, although there is a very very slight sharpness around the edges when drunk without food,(which disappeared with food) but to me that just added to the flavour explosion. this is a young'un, will it develop and change? Really rich smooth taste - ideal for drinking by the fire on a winters night. Joe L. A fantastic blend that will get better after a bit of air. Young, fresh, red fruit on the nose. A spicy little number in the mouth the clean, crisp fruit would go with a lamb dish wonderfully. Oh pickle me in this when I die ! God this is good, in fact if they were to serve this as communion wine, more people would go to church ! The deepest red imaginable and a long leggy wine. Nose full of spicy plums with toffee, liquorice and tobacco in the back ground. The flavours run through with the wine on your tongue and full after tones with no nasty tannins. I was going to have this with dinner, but the wine is so good, it deserves to be consumed on its own - it's that good. But then again, what do I know! Andy S. Greg B. Alastair L.
