Writing this based on opening and instantly drinking (not as in glug-glug but over the course of an hour or two) the first half. Looking forward to the second aired half of this tomorrow although it doesn't feel like it needs that much air. I'll almost certainly buy again but let's see what tomorrow brings... Steve T. Thu Jul 19 20:40:23 UTC 2012 Initially stuggled with this wine. When i opened and poured I couldn't get beyond the oak and smoke so wasn't keen leaving it on the side to revisit. Returned a few hours later and still the same... disappointing However I returned a day later and it had really opened out, stong black cherry flavours coming through which combined well with the oak, totally transformed. On the palate, it's smooth but with a bit of a kick!!, Had a deep red fruit taste. Seemed loaded with alcohol, do not drink on an empty stomach!! Tue Apr 10 20:34:10 UTC 2012 at Is it just me, or is this 2004 so much nicer than the 2003? Certainly, it's more obviously drinking nicely at present. On first opening, what I liked was the instant grip of ripe but very aggressive, raspy fruit and skinny tannins, which melted away to give a soft, seductive centre. The 2003 didn't have much to offer in the middle and faded away with little fanfare, but this one is much more like it. It still leaves less on the after taste than one would like, but I think a couple of years in bottle more might well lengthen the wine out beautifully and then I, too, might be looking around in my silver medal drawer! I know that in Rioja one would not see a Gran Reserva label two years running, but, clearly, Valencia, is a different , up and coming, story. In a nutshell: this is a rustic wine with classy notes. Kelly M. Alan H. OK, first a few key words of warning for this deeply red wine: open it and leave it to breathe for an hour or so. This is a red wine that requires the gentle breath of life to resuscitate it and bring it back into the world of beautifully alive flavours. This wine changes from a slightly astringent, brackish and stoney flavour and then opens up in deep fruity flavours with a wonderfully tannic finish on breathing. It grips your mouth and locks in flavours that linger for up to a minute after quaffing. I can identify it as a slight drawback that some planning is required for drinking, but I've already bought another few bottles of this to enjoy the patient anticipation knowing that a very fine and deeply flavoured wine will greet me in a very short while. Soft, slightly sweet, on the nose. Body somewhere at the high end of medium. Taste initially muted with some sweetness and modest tannins. Then it changed. Quite a lot. The tannins came through strongly, the oak put in an appearance. There's some red fruit. Then some more, Then some more sweetness at the back of the throat. Did I get a smidge of eucalyptus? Overall a pleasant surprise with fair complexity. Not what I was expecting in a good way. Then again the other half didn't like it at all, finding it too tannic, the body too thin and the flavour vague. This seems to reflect the Marmite nature of this wine judging by the feedback. Sat Sep 24 09:58:28 UTC 2011 My last bottle of this vintage & it's a shame to see it gone :-( A rich garnet colour with a heady nose of stewed bramble fruits & pepper is followed by a rich mouthful of soft plums, blackberries & blueberries finishing off nicely with a caramel from the oak & medium tannins.
