This was lovely, I rate this wine maker highly and really enjoy them. Rioja is my fave Spanish red and this is one of the greats for me , at a really good price Paul B. Carlos won the best winemaker this year for a very good reason and this shows off his work beautifully. I convinced a non Rioja fan to try some over Christmas and have managed to change their opinion of the stuff. Wonderful and full of flavour, nothing goes better with a roast beef joint than this little number. Craig M. Fri Oct 26 23:07:40 UTC 2012 Having started my wine adventure whilst living in Spain 10 years ago I find I don't drink much Spanish wine anymore. Probably down to the fact that it's difficult and/or expensive to find anything decent from other countries. Therefore I spent a good 2 years just drinking good reds from Ribera del Duero or Bierzo. So when I moved back to the UK you can imagine my delight at being able to drink good wine from all over the globe. When I do have a good Spanish red I do forget just how good they can be and how I should drink more. Nice deep red on pouring. The nose gives plums, cinnamon and oak. The mouth gives well balanced spicy damsons and toasty oak. The finish is rather short and I would prefer a little more fruit (probably because I tend to prefer a Crianza to a Reserva) but this is a smashing wine. This vintage is unfortunately not available anymore however i will be adding the 07 to my next order. Perfect for a cold evening round the fire and Game of Thrones on the telly. Nathan M. There are black berries and warming chocolate tones from its oak ageing. A subtle amount of vanilla also comes through too, with a silky mouthfeel, slightly dry at the end, with a longish finish. Not a great deal on the nose (should have let it breathe) but on the palate it was fantastic. Had the familiar smoky taste of a Rioja but was packed with fruit flavours. I bought a couple of bottles of this when Carlos first announced it's arrival a couple of months ago then promptly forgot about them. So I opened a bottle around lunchtime, decanted it through an aerator, waited until the wife went out for the evening and then got "stuck in" As soon as I opened the bottle, I was hit by an aroma of raspberries. After a few hours, this seemed to develop into a sort of peppery stewed prunes nose. In the glass, it has a colour that I find difficult to describe - a sort of dark pinky red. Doubtless there's a proper word for this, but it's not in my vocabulary yet. Then the taste. Cherries, plumbs, blackberries and just about anything dark and autumnal. And of course the vanilla "sweetness" of oak. The aftertaste picked up mild tannins and a gently acidity that suggested those old fashioned "sour cherry" sweets. Didn't have this with food. Just "quaffing" it while listening to some music. Paradise! I'm so pleased that I have a small stash of Carlos' wines that I've yet to try. And another bottle of this of course! Gerald F. Smooth, a hint of oak, but not too much so that it stops the clear expression of fruit that you get from a great Rioja. I see there were some less than favourable reviews previously, but I thought it was a stonker. Perhaps a couple of bottles in the batch were faulty. Right up my street. Darren L. Just the right amount of oak balancing some caramelised autumn red fruit in there. A little lighter bodied than many reservas but in terms of taste holds up to to them David T. a gloriously rich wine, buttery and velvety, gentle sweet vanilla coming through the smokey oak.- - Think Gold Top Milk and Creme Caramel! Reminded me of the satisfaction from a big creamy glass of Baileys! A truly wonderful Rioja which in my opinion is well ahead of its class.
