 The previous vintage was superb, and this 2012 is right up there too. Honey and melons with a very slight bitter edge on the finish, just add sunshine! Adrian S. A month or so ago, I reviewed the Small & Small Viognier and Bill Small suggested that I try Ben's as well. I liked that. So, having taken Bill's advice, I bought a couple of bottles. I don't have much experience with Viognier, but this one is very crisp and dry. Lots of citrus on the nose and palette. Lemon and Kiwi fruit maybe and certainly a hint of grapefruit. A mildly acidic finish with more citrus flavours giving a sort of warming glow. So how does this compare with the Small and Small wine? I'd say they differ in the same way as a Loire SB differs from a Marlborough SB. They are just different. Thanks, Bill, for the recommendation and thanks Ben for a yet another super wine. Gerald F. Many reviewers appear to think similarly on the subject of this wine & I'm inclined to agree. It hits you with bags of peach & grapefruit on the nose but the flavour is more subtle. Less cloying than some viognier & not at all acidic like the new world seems to produce. I wouldn't over chill as you'll lose some of the finish which is quite subtle but does reward the patient, especially if left in the glass a while. This is an aperitif wine & doewsn't like to battle with bold flavours in my opinion but went well with a rocket & parmesan salad. Good job really as it was finished before the main course was served! Never the less this is a very drinkable wine that complements many foods well. It is not outstanding though like so much of Ben's other produce. Smooth is usually a term I use when describing red wine but I cant help thinking smooth about this wine. It starts with a lovely clean aroma and then in the mouth it is wonderfully full of flavour. Not a smack you in the face, full on flavour, but a smooth silky velvet feel that caresses your taste buds and says, go on you know you want more.
