I had high expectations of it, but it didn't deliver.Slightly sweeter than Picpoul I've tasted in the past. Maybe I expected too much? Average Picpoul. I've had better at same price.(Got one in the fridge right now that has become one of my favourite dry whites) Robert V. Sun Feb 10 19:33:17 UTC 2013 Well it's taken me a few weeks Gerry, but I've finally acquired some Picpoul & opened one up this evening with a squash risotto. Absolutely splendid! I agree, it tastes like a very dextrous wine that could go with most occasions - luckily we have another for another night this week. Dry (not overly so!), crisp, fresh, lemony. Pears on my nose at least - very floral said the Lovely Laura & I wouldn't disagree, and with the nose stuck reet in glass she also pointed out a touch of almonds. Lemony-appley-light&freshness in the mouth. In short, a joy - I'll be stocking up in the warmer months. It must have been good as we went back for another and another - well you get the picture (which was a bit out of focus by the end of the evening!). They have all been "done to death". What I can do, is answer a question that Matthew asked me a month or so ago. He asked me which wine I would take if I had to go on a dessert island - it's this one. But hang on a minute. It's not because it's my favourite wine. It isn't. I prefer Ben's Pure Viognier. I prefer most of Joost's wines. I prefer Bill & Claudia's and Mike's SBs. I prefer Carmen's CB and Virgile's SB. And I certainly prefer all the "Gs" on the site. Last night, we enjoyed a Roussanne. But could I drink any of these wines everyday, under any circumstances, whatever mood I was in, whatever I was eating? NO WAY! What makes this wine so special (for me at least) is it's versatility. It's a wine I could happily drink every day under any circumstances. In my view, that's what makes it so special. This wine ticks all the boxes, presses all the buttons and really "does the business" (feel free to add any cliche you wish) and for that, I give it 5 hearts. So, Ben, whilst this is not my favourite wine on the Naked site, it's the one and only wine I could never do without. Just finished my last bottle. More in the basket. Gerald F. It's light and unoaked and very fresh and clean, but it's also a little oily and, with just the faintest hint of sparkle, there is a softness there too. A hint of lemon sherbet on the nose and a homoeopathic quantity of lime too, the flavour is of clean fresh fruit, with a slight touch of boiled sweets and pineapple. Even though this is a modest wine, from a modest grape, it is beautifully made by Benjamin, who got my vote the other week, and it is too nice to drink chilled down to a single figure low temperature. (Also in this case was Benjamin's Celtis Australis and I look forward to that, in a few months, after it has had a little rest from its travels!) David B. However this has lovely floral laced aromas of pears which carry through to the palate. There is also a streak of minerality (think wet stones) and spice on the palate and it is all wrapped up a decent amount of acidity making this a well balanced wine. I'm glad I bought 3 bottles. Tingles on the tonque with a freshness that suggests slightly sparkling mineral water. Smooth and warm in the mouth with a good balance between alcohol and refreshment. I drank this with freshly caught Brown Trout and went together beautifully. The wine is distinctive while still retaining great subtlety. I was glad that I chose broad beans and New Potatoes as Picpoul de Pinet was sweeter than I usually choose at Medium Dry. I would choose a drier wine with a crispy salad but this was a real treat. As you expect from the Laguedoc an immaculately clean wine. sweet melon and apple and you can taste the chalk/minerals. Its pretty much in your face, like a bucket of cold water on a hot day.
