Thanks to some excellent recent additions to the NW range and some very tempting marketplace offers, I haven't opened a bottle of Ben's Minervois for a while now. Has the couple of months since my last tasting been kind to this Naked Superstar? Oh yes! This isn't a wine that will 'improve' if laid down for a while and so there isn't a big change to report since I last enjoyed it. Or to put that another way it is as brilliant now as it was last time! And the time before that. And for that matter, as brilliant as previous vintages were. Agree with previous reviews - the wine is silky smooth, easy to drink (and to finish off!), and full of fruit without being a fruit bomb. This time I think I picked up up a little chocolate in there too. A fabulous bottle of wine.

Mr. D, I do like your wines. I'm always apprehensive when trying a new wine, especially French because I know so little of French wines. I found this a rather tasty drop! The nose was fruity with plums and brambles. To taste it was cherries and bramble jam. There was a pleasant tannin tingle on the tongue and overall this was quite a smooth number. For the price it's an absolute charmer : )

I can't believe I've left it so long to try this little beauty. I'd forgotten I had a couple of bottles until I read somewhere else on the site that this is a great "quaffing" wine. And what good advice that was! Strawberries and cream on the nose with a hint of spice, maybe pepper. In the mouth it was like an explosion red fruit, all competing. The strawberries gave way to cherry and plumb. I was a bit like sucking all the "dark" sweets from a box of old fashioned fruit gums. The cherries lingering in a moderate aftertaste. A slightly sweeter than normal red, to me at least, but this is not fault and the mild tannins provided a good balance. Another great wine from Ben. What fantastic value for money.

I love this area of France and so this wine has taken me back there in a glass... The French will hate me for suggesting it but their wines are inconsistent in quality but this one never fails to deliver. Enjoy a good French red as it is meant to be and serve it with any dish you fancy as it can hold its own against a summer meal or robust winter fare.

Does Benjamin Darnault's wines just get better with each new vintage, or does my appreciation just grow with each vintage? Probably both! The 2011 is drinking superbly now based on tonight's sample. This semi-translucent red, with an 13.5% abv is made from Grenache with 20% Syrah (unless the blend has changed...). Nice amount of fruit on the nose with a slight hint of green herb behind it. On the palate, it is blackberry maybe with a touch of blueberry, some damson plum, all mingling together to create a soft concoction. It is quite creamy, and there are subtle tannins that leave a very light coating in the mouth afterwards but in a good way. Also there is just a nod towards this having a spicy edge to it on the finish together with parsley. Get to know this wine as it will become a friend for life, perhaps! It is very good!

Not a bad tipple: warm red fruit and thyme on the nose. This is followed by earthy red berry sliding into woody tannins. Best enjoyed with food: red meats and cheeses.

Bobbins! That's the 2nd bottle we've drunk without thinking at all about it (busy, stressy days) - so all I can really say is that it is jolly damn good! Sorry Ben, the wine was hugely appreciated with our dinner, but my head was so busy defragmenting that thoughts of odours & flavours didn't come into it. We shall try VERY hard with bottle 3, I promise! A bloody nice red, anyway, I assure you all - and at a cracking price too.

Light and fruity little number. I do like it, but I can't help but feel it's not at it's best yet. I take a sip and the first thing that jumps in my head is "mmmm, nice..... I bet it'll be fantastic given another 6-12 months aging in the bottle". I think I'm going to happily drink 4 of the 6 that I've got (not all tonight!) and then lay the other two down for a while to see how they develop.

This wine was lovely once it had been open and left to warm and breathe for a while... When I first opened the bottle it smelt quite vinegary to me and I was tempted to throw it and open the second bottle to test. However, I used part of the first bottle for some christmas cooking and by the time I had finished up the wine was a perfect accompaniment to my dinner. We took the second bottle round to my boyfriends parents for dinner, everyone loved it! Definitely happy to recommend this!

its smooth and light but not really to my taste. It lacks any real fruitiness and has a slight banana taste that I have experienced in French wine before and am not a fan of.

This wine has five star taste. When you drink it you will feel how smmoth it is then your taste buds kick in an wow.... I can not wait to get another bottle.

A solid French Minervois but to be honest next to Benjamin's other reds it was my least favourite (perhaps the problem was that I was trying it next to them). I would go for any of the others, especially the Saint Chinian Organic first.

I personally feel that this wine lacks bold fruity flavours I enjoy in a red. Just tastes very alcoholic. My palate might not be sophisticated enough to appreciate it - think I prefer the bolder flavours of the New World.

I have to say the first sip of this I found salty! I don't know what that corresponds to but I didn't get the wow factor I was expecting, based on other reviews. Having said that, after a quarter of a bottle it had definitely grown on me.

I love this wine. No two ways about it, this is a wine for the summer that never dissapoints. So easy drinking, refreshing fresh fruit with balanced acidity making you top up your glass. Crack on and fill your boots with this stuff!

Like all of Benjamin's wines this just exudes quality. It is possibly the smoothest wine I have ever tasted, full of warming dark berry flavours. For my personal taste, I would only drink this with food as I like a much meatier wine to drink on its own. I think this would be perfect when I am looking for a lighter, but still complex, wine to go with a fish dish like mackerel.

The standard of Benjamin's wines is very very high and this comes near the top in my opinion. I simply cannot fault it in any way. It is full bodied, big flavour, has character, fine bouquet and long finish. I love this wine and would not need any other on a desert island. Except Ben's Picpoul de Pinet, but that's a white.

Below is my review of the 2009 vintage and the 2010 is equally as good but just a little fruitier: Soft, rounded and fruity, redcurrants and red berries, with a lovely fresh acidity that worked well with duck risotto. An easy drinking wine with soft tannins and good length but with an almost menthol quality and when Ryan (O'Vineyards) was describing the Garrigue and it's influence on the wines from the Languedoc he mentioned that a lot of the herbs in the garrigue have a menthol quality and that certainly comes through in the Minervois.

This wine has an excellent flavour, easy to polish of a couple of bottles! The first couple I had, had a distinct "fizz" which was different, but this didn't spoil the wine. Not too heavy.

Really enjoyed this. The grape really shines through - and somehow the wine manages to balance a taste light enough to complement, rather than overpower, accompanying food with a real character that is both identifiable and complex enough to offer something different in every few sips. I've seen some other reviewers suggesting that it would probably benefit from a little time longer in the bottle, so looking forward to a couple more bottles this year, and then perhaps the others to celebrate the delivery of the 2010,11 and 12 vintages!

Was part of my rave review case, unfortunately I found it to be the poorest of the lot. Perhaps just me, I found it very over powering? Very very fruity, maybe a little to sickly sweet for me. the other bottle I gave away. Shame as the reviews were so positive.

Hmm. A bit of a puzzler. On one hand I like the fruitness and mellow aftertaste and on the other hand I find it lacking in depth and body, Overall it's a thumbs up because it's a smooth, drinkable wine at a good price (with cash back) but it didn't rock my world

As a rule I love wines from Minervois and I really wanted to love this one but I'm afraid I just didn't. Nice colour but lighter bodied than a lot of other Minervois wines I've tasted. It's smooth and easy drinking but in my opinion it seemed a bit flat and lacked character. I personally feel it would benefit from some Carignan to add some earthyness but maybe that's just my taste. At this price I think you can find better examples from Minervois

A well crafted wine that took some getting used to, diplays medley of unusual flavours from licorice to bubbblegum. if Willy Wonka was a winemaker he'd be knocking upo stuff like this. By the end of the bottle I was as staisfied as Augustus Gloop. Excellent stuff.
