But I felt it lacked a bit of a wow factor and as a result I'm less likely to buy again Adrian S. This has a much stronger flavour, with intense black fruit and spice that is deeply seductive, luring you into drinking endlessly unabashed by the consequences. This is not an excellent wine, it is an exceptional one with a fine harmonious breadth of flavours and depth of character. Fri Nov 02 14:33:03 UTC 2012 at a friends house Oh my, ohhhhhhhh my - this is an exceptional piece of craftswomanship, GO Anita! Decanted & breathed for a good several hours, once poured we all spent a good 5 minutes with our noses deep in the glass before tasting. Anita's policy of leaving this in air-conditioned warehouses for 4-5 years before releasing for general consumption clearly shows in the complex depths of the wine's nose. It prompted so many thoughts, but all was so wonderfully blended that none screamed out at us. So, edges of initial mintiness, some coffee & chocolate as we inhaled further - and an edge of tarragon on a deep inhale. Lovely strong but elegant legs and a really rich dark red in colour. Once we finally started to sip, no socks were left untouched. As with the nose, delightfully rich with a very seductive flute of flavours, but the bottle-ageing has melted all into a most magical brew. So dark fruits, again coffee and chocolate - but ohhhhh SO much more! You just have to experience it - go on, treat yourself to a bottle for Christmas. Some very fine sediment. The alcohol in the nose was not as strong as anticipated, allowing for the cranberry, raspberry and spices (5-spice & cumin) to come through. There were also hints of smoky vanilla & plum. The flavour is dominated by blackcurrant, with a gentle tannic tingle. A long finish of Asian spices and plums. Fri Jun 29 15:21:29 UTC 2012 In a previous review I described this wine as "uberlicious"... And that just about nails it - again! I also said that it was a standout wine, which is also true! Why? Well to start with it has a really dense crimson ruby colour in the glass; better still is the really heady fruity aroma..., that just beguiles you to take the next step. To taste, it is really, really smooth and velvety sensual on the palate. A sheer delight with lovely dark fruitiness coupled with some spice and vanilla softness - like wrapping yourself around the duvet on a cold winter's night - so satisfying! It is gorgeous! Barry W. Malcolm and Jane have the "copyright" on describing wines "sexually". All I'd say is (following one of Jane's recent reviews) "multiple". And for a guy of my age, that ain't bad! This is SO good. We had it with beef short ribs in a sort of Coca Cola based sweet and sour source and it was a match made in heaven (I'll post the recipe on the appropriate group) Opened and decanted a few hours before drinking and the first impact was a nose of oaky vanilla and strong dark fruit. A word of caution - I FOUND SOME SEDIMENT, SO BE CAREFUL. This wine MUST be decanted with care. In the glass, there is a dark inky colour. The nose has lost some of its oakiness and the fruit become more dominant. On the palate, there's a sort of dark fruity creamy tongue wrapping sort of feeling. Again, can only describe as "multiple". And then there's the finish. You swallow this wine and all of a sudden you get a kick from a cherry that seems to say "hey, you didn't think I was here, did you?" No, I didn't and this tiny little cherry give a long enjoyable finish. Yes, the wine is tannic, but they are so much in balance that they just make an excellent wine really great. And the best bit is that I still have 3 bottles of this PLUS a couple of bottles of the 2006 vintage. Just in case you are wondering, I rather liked this wine. Thanks Anita. Tobacco and pepper on the nose and a rich ruby colour in the glass. Packs a real punch too, not for the faint hearted. Quite tannic and smoky initially but powerful fruit flavours follow through, leaving a velvety long finish on the palate. Quite simply delicious and definitely right up my street matthew w. Usually retails at £32.99 a bottle but at the time of writing (Jan 2012) is available online for half that figure.
