 This is a well made wine... It's a very well made wine... Too well made... Surely not!? I enjoyed drinking this wine; a lovely rich nose of fruit and oak, complex on the palate with plummy goodness leading into to vanilla, pepper and a creamy finish. I should absolutely love this wine but.... It just isn't rough enough around the edges, it's clean shaven in a perfectly ironed, pristine, white shirt. For me it needs some stubble, a couple of creases on the lapel or an ink stain on the pocket. So yes i enjoyed this wine and fully commend Carmen and team on producing a great wine but for me, it's just too perfect. matthew w. There is loads going on with black fruit, some sweet vanilla and the promised raspberries. In the mouth there is even more with tobacco and for me some red fruit that I can't place. I was expecting a bigger wine but this is really easy and comforting. It was brilliant with my slab of beef but I was not as keen as many of my fellow reviewers post food. I can't quite put my finger on why this is not a five star wine for me, as whilst i love big, bold shiraz, i also enjoy this easier drinking styles like this. i read Nathan's review with interest as it was not what I would have thought of but it has got me thinking. For me there are so any great Shiraz on the site at this price point that I adore that I would go to before this so it has not broken into my top three Shiraz from NW. Having said all of that I have still given it 4 stars and have another bottle and will happily drink it again. It has been put together with precision by Carmen who makes excellent wines that I love and regularly buy but I personally would turn to the Manley Shiraz if I was spending my last £11. theodore b. Fri Nov 02 22:15:16 UTC 2012 at a friends house I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I've overlooked trying this wine before now. As one of Carmen's AAs, this is most remiss of me. First of all, the bottle. It's so elegant and you just know it's going to be a classy wine. Then of course, it's made by Carmen so you know you are onto a winner before you even remove the cork. We did the usual aerating and decanting a few hours before serving. The nose is complex. We got the expected dark fruitiness but there's so much more. A hint of vanilla, chocolate and spice, with maybe even a touch of leather. There is nothing harsh or abrasive about this wine. In the mouth it is so so smooth and feels like a piece of velvet slowly wrapping itself around the tongue. The wine is packed full of fruits. Raspberries, blackberries - an almost winter fruit cocktail with a hint of cream. A long, gently tannic finish leaving a lingering fruity sensation that slowly oozes down the back of your fruit. This gets 5 stars with no hesitation. And the best bit? Mrs G wasn't too keen on it (not surprising, she's not a big red fan) so I get to have my remaining stash all to myself. Well done Carmen. Thu Jun 28 13:16:47 UTC 2012 Having drunk this agian tonight I'm writing proper tasting notes (just in case my memory goes!) Decanted 8 hours before the first sip (it needs it too) it is dark ruby in the glass with the pronounced nose bursting with dark berry fruit, liquorice & white pepper (due to the high alcohol methinks!?) In the mouth this wine shows its relative youth, I think this could cellar for a minimum of 5 more years. The initial flavours are of blackcurrant, cassis and just a hint of baked raspberry. The rich & full tannins add to the nettle leaf finish with cocoa & a hint of coffee at the end, the finish on this wine is very long indeed! You know that free bottle you get every month? Use the saving on that to subsidise the purchase of this! It'll keep for 5 years, it'll be perfect to have with the best quality rare steak you can afford or give as a very elegant gift (the bottle is classier than Kate Middleton!) Opened and decanted a good 4 hours before drinking. Lovely deep red on pouring, the nose was fantastic. Deep red fruit and wood had me returning to keep sniffing it like a weirdo. Beautiful fresh berry and well integrated oak with a hint of vanilla. Peppery finish but wait...ooh bit acidic. Rinse and repeat. Yep that acid on the finish is bugging me. Like a wearing a fantastic looking Hugo Boss suit that's a bit tight round the middle. You look the part but that flaw stops me from relaxing and really enjoying it. Nathan M. The wines nose speaks of sweet vanilla fused with pepper spice, plums, tobacco and licorice. The palate is crisp on entry yet a smooth tannin structure with tobacco, pepper and prune fruit. The wine shows good integration between fruit and oak on the palate and ends with a spicy lingering. kris s.
